Multiple SAMA awards winner Gloria Bosman together with the Rising Star Nandipha Dubula will grace the Lion of Africa Musical Expressions stage on the 5 September 2014.
“Lion of Africa Musical Expressions serves as a platform to provide our veteran performers with an additional opportunity to entertain audiences but equally to showcase an up-and-coming new talent that deserves to be introduced to a wider audience,” said Rethabile Mahuma, marketing manager of the short term insurance company.
“It is our way of demonstrating our commitment to supporting the development of local talent.”
Bosman recently thrilled the crowd at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival and got her first break in a production called SA Love by the Market Theatre in 1993. She has since performed alongside South African greats such as Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo and Victor Masondo, received a SAMA for Best Newcomer for her album Tranquility in 1999 and Best Female Composer for her 2004 album, Nature Dances, she also received multiple SAMA nominations for her other albums The Many Face of Gloria Bosman and Stop and Think.
She was the winner of the prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist award in 2000. She was also been nominated for a Naledi Award in the Best Female Performance in a Musical category for her work in the Mandela Trilogy.
Nandipha “Nani” Dubula, studied music at the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance (AFDA), and independently recorded an 11 track project, The many faces of Gloria Bosman. Her first single, Nomalanga, was popular on some of SA’s top music channels.
She was a semi-finalist in the Castle Milk Stout Unsigned Talent Search 2014 and recently performed internationally at the SA Freedom Day celebrations in Korea and Holland.
The Lion of Africa Musical Expressions with Gloria Bosman and Nani Dubula takes place on Friday 5 September at 19:00 at the Yamaha Theatre in Marlboro. Tickets are R150 each and are available at www.joburgtheatre.com.
